3 Steps to Creating Your Best Content Calendar

If you have ever struggled with what to post on social media or even on your blog, it may be helpful to create a content calendar! If you are doing any kind of marketing at all, it’s important to have a content calendar because not only does it solve the problem of what to post, but it allows you to see an overview of what you have planned for the upcoming weeks. Content calendars may seem a little overwhelming at first but once you get the hang of it, you will be loving it in no time!

What is a Content Calendar?

If you are wondering what a content calendar is and how to start one, know that you are not alone! When I first started blogging, I had no idea how helpful a content calendar would be. Basically, it is a calendar that helps you plan and organize every piece of content that you want to publish online. It’s so helpful when it comes to your online marketing. The best part? You can customize it for what works best for your blog. You may only want to include your social media or just your blog content, or you can even schedule out both!

Being able to sit down and plan out your content in advance helps you stay on track of it and on top of your marketing and your content ideas. You’ll never have to freak out last minute because you don’t have anything planned and you can see what you have planned out for the week, month or even year. It allows you to make sure you are creating content that your readers will love! Here are a few simple steps to get your content calendar started!à

Plan

Take some time to sit down and look at your marketing efforts. How often do you want to be blogging each week? How often do you want to be posting on social media? Instead of making the plan in your head, create a content calendar to help you see everything you are planning out. It will help you plan for any fun launches you have got going on and make sure you are keeping your readers up to date on any exciting news. It will also ensure that you are not posting the same ideas over and over again and can expand on the topics that you know your readers will love. Writing everything out will make the actual act of writing so much easier and will help you be more productive when the time comes to do the work.

Schedule

When you get to see the big picture, you can decide on if you are posting too much or too little. Being able to see everything you have planned out for the month will allow you to see if you can squeeze in an extra post or two or if you should save it for next month’s calendar. Remember, staying consistent is the most important thing. You don’t want your readers to stop coming to your blog because of your irregular posting. Be sure to write and schedule your blogs ahead of time so you are not scrambling last minute to get them done. Being able to plan things out in advance will help you establish a schedule that works best for you.

Organize

Staying organized is so important when it comes to your blog. Keeping all of your potential topic ideas and plans in one place will help you stay organized not only with writing your blog posts but also when it comes to your content calendar! Being able to look at your calendar and see what you kinds of topics you are missing will be helpful when you are looking at your idea list. You will be able to plug in certain topics that you know your readers are just going to love. Staying organized will help you from wasting time and keep you on track with your blog.

Having a content calendar will change your blog forever! It will help you stay on track with posting content and ensure that you are putting out all different topics that your readers are going to love. Once you start using a calendar, you’ll learn different tips and tricks as you go and find what works best for you and your blog. Don’t be afraid to try something new and experiment with your content!

I know sometimes we want things to go fast, but th I know sometimes we want things to go fast, but that's not how it works.

I expected my business to be way bigger after running it for two years. It's not. And that's okay. (I do have to remind myself that on a daily basis, trust me it's hard, ha!)

It takes so much time and work to grow a business or a blog. Some people can make their blogs profitable in under a year. I haven't found that to be the majority of people.

I've learned from experience that it takes something around two years to get any kind of traction, and another two to hit the really awesome goals you had for yourself.

Unfortunately, running your own business isn't easy! It takes a lot of blind faith that you can figure it all out.

So I'm with you if you feel like you're constantly jumping over cliffs, not really sure what's on the other side. You're not alone.

At the beginning of your blogging journey, I don't At the beginning of your blogging journey, I don't recommend limiting yourself.

Some people will recommend you pick a niche right away and stick with it, but I believe a little experimentation is always good when you get started.

Since you don't have it all figured out anyway, why pretend you do? Now it the best time to make mistakes, while not too many people are looking.

So try posts that don't fit your niche! What kind of feedback are you getting?

Do what you love, even if it means it's a bit out of the box. People will be attracted to that way more than if you do the same thing as everyone else.

Passion is noticeable. Trust me!

If you're new to this blogging journey, I want to If you're new to this blogging journey, I want to remind you of something this morning: you don't need to have it all figured out to get started.

It's fine if you don't know what your niche is. It's fine if your theme is not perfect. It's fine if your blog posts aren't optimized.

You can always fix those things down the line.

Just get started and write a post! You won't get where you want to be by trying to be perfect. You'll get there by taking imperfect action.

And believe me, I don't have it all figured out either. (Want to know a secret? Nobody does! 😉 )
