Starting a blog is an exciting and overwhelming adventure. It is a great way to share your passion and knowledge with the world. For your blog to grow and be successful, it will take time, hard work, and creativity. It is absolutely worth the time and investment you put in! With every new blog post, you learn what works best for you and your brand. And remember, you can always pivot and change with time. You will learn what works and what doesn’t – just give it time! Here are a few of my favorite tips to consider when you are first starting your blog.
1) Find Your Niche
It may seem like a no-brainer but the first step when starting a blog is to pick a topic. Deciding what you want to blog about may be one of the hardest decisions you will ever make when it comes to your blog, but it is one of the most important ones. This will decide what you will be writing about on a weekly, or even daily basis. Think about what you are interested in. What can you talk about for hours? Pick a topic that you absolutely love because the love for it will get you through the hard times. Write down a few things you are passionate about it and see how you can integrate them into your niche.

2) Pick A Name
After you decide on what you will be writing about, it’s important to think about the name of your blog. You want something memorable that is also easy to find. You don’t want something that is spelled incorrectly or too hard to find because it might send readers away if they have a hard time finding your blog. Choosing a name may be harder than picking a topic. Write down as many as you can think of and go through the list. You don’t have to pick the perfect name right this second! Be sure to give yourself some time to choose. Think about it for a few days if you have the time. You are always able to change your name down the road, but it’s a lot easier if you don’t have to.

3) Brand Yourself
Once you have your name and niche picked out, it’s time to start thinking about your brand as a whole. Think about what you want the logo to look like and what you want your brand to feel like. The types of things that you want to think about are the colors, the fonts, the tone of voice, etc. What do you want your readers to see when they first come to your website? This is one of the fun parts of creating your blog! Whether you are doing your branding yourself or hiring a professional, be sure to integrate some fun personal aspects into your brand!

4) Get on Social Media
Social media is a great way to share your blog with your followers! Whether you are choosing to be on every platform or only just a few, social media is a great way to let them know when you have published your next post. Not only can you share your blog posts, but it is one of the best ways to connect with your readers on a more personal level. From social media posts to responding to comments to even creating stories, it’s a great way to build relationships with your followers. It allows them to see more of the person behind the brand as well as connect with you on a personal level. When you are choosing a name, check to see if the social media handles are available as well!

5) Start Writing
Don’t forget to write those blog posts! Writing is one of the most important things when it comes to having a blog because without any content, you won’t see any growth. Don’t let the stress of having the perfect logo and the perfect design get you distracted from your content. At the end of the day, your readers are here for your content and not your color palette. When it comes to writing, the most important thing that I recommend is to stay consistent! When you first start, you may not have the following that you want but as long as you stay consistent with your writing you will find that you are growing with time. Remember, having a blog shouldn’t be a stressful endeavor so be sure you having fun with it.
These are just a few things to consider when you are new to blogging. As time goes on, you will make some minor adjustments and tweaks to your blog to make it more fitting and true to your brand. You don’t have to have everything perfect from the start! The most important thing is that you launch and that you put out the types of content that you know your readers are going to love.
