Writing your About Me page is usually the hardest part of your website! It’s the one section that you usually want to get done as soon as you can and never look at it again. You spend so much time making sure that your website is updated and perfect, so why not do that with your About Me section? It is your first contact with readers. That’s where they can get to know you a little bit, get to know your brand, and see why you are the right for them. You want to make a good first impression so you want to make sure that your About Me page represents you in the best way possible.
Relate It To Your Brand
When it comes to writing your bio, you want to make sure you relate it back to your blog. Of course, you can get a little personal and you absolutely should. It gives the reader an idea of who you are and what you do. The one thing that I do not recommend is adding in too many random facts about yourself and leaving it as it is. Talk about how you got started and how you plan to help them. You don’t want to overload your readers with information about you and nothing about how your brand got to where it is today.
Add A Good Photo
I always suggest adding a photo of yourself into your bio. Whether it is a professional headshot or a more casual headshot, it’s important for viewers to see your face! With everything being virtual these days, it is a great way to put a face on the person behind the voice and the blog. From reading your bio and seeing your photo, they will already feel a connection to you and feel like they know you.
Talk About What You Believe In
In your bio, be sure to talk about how you are going to add value to their life! What do you do better than anyone else? What makes you different? These are great talking points and will help show everyone how awesome and trustworthy you are! Don’t be afraid to talk about your values and what is important to you. What can they expect to learn from you and when? Just from reading your bio, readers will be so excited about what they can learn and how you can help improve their lives.
How They Can Reach You
Don’t forget to add how readers can get in touch with you if they have a question or would like to say hi. It can be as simple as linking to your contact page. You don’t want them to read how great you are and not give them a way to get in touch with you. They may get distracted and forget to come back to your website. Making your website easy for readers to navigate will only help you in the long run.
Once you create your About Me page, you can always go back and edit it. If it’s not perfect the first time, that’s okay! Your blog is constantly changing and growing and that means that your website is too. I know it’s the scariest part of your website but don’t be afraid to tweak it and edit as you go.
This post is just what I needed as I have struggled with my about page!
