Starting a blog may seem like a daunting project to take on but it’s also one of the most exhilarating and rewarding things you will do. I see a lot of bloggers start the process and once they decide on their niche, they freeze up and don’t know what to do next. Don’t let the overwhelm and unknown of running a blog scare you.
Once you get in the flow of things, managing your blog will seem much less scary and more of a fun and exciting adventure. Deciding what your niche will be will help you establish what road you want to take when it comes to your blog. It will help you plan out your content and who you will be targeting. If you are in the start-up phase of your blog, here are a few tips that will help you get started after you have decided on your niche.
Setting Yourself Apart
After you have picked your niche, it is time to start thinking about what sets you apart from the rest of the bloggers out there. This is one of the most important things to think about because it is what will make you stand out!
Think about the other bloggers in your niche. What makes you different from them? What makes your content different? Why should the readers come to your blog first? Try making a list of reasons and think about how you can incorporate all of those things into your blog. Setting yourself apart from other bloggers when you start will help you grow your blog over time and really attract the right reader to your website. Thinking this through will also help you with the next few steps when it comes to creating your blog.
Creating Content
What would a blog be without content?! Once you decide on your niche – you can go writing crazy! Think about all the different types of topics you want to cover and what kinds of things your readers will love. You can always test and change over time but it’s important to start your blog with a bit of a game plan. You don’t want to hit that block of stress and overwhelm and never create any content. Getting a bit of content written and planned will help you stay ahead!
Hitting Publish
Ever written a blog post and then left it in your draft folder for months on end?! You are not alone, we’ve all been there. The most important thing to do is to hit publish! If you are waiting for that post to be 100% perfect, you may put it off for a while. Don’t be afraid of what others will think or how you pair up to your fellow bloggers. You should be proud of your content! Be sure you are hitting publish on all of those fantastic blog posts you have hanging around in that draft folder – it’s the only way your readers will be able to keep up with your content.
Promoting Across Platforms
Once you start publishing your content, it’s time to start promoting it! Whether you choose to send out newsletters, promote on social media, use social media ads, etc. it’s time to start telling your readers about your content. From guest blogging on other sites to even having guest posts on yours, there are endless ways to promote your blog. Think about your target audience and where they like to hang out on the internet. Be sure you are hanging out on those channels and connecting with your readers! Not only will this help promote your blogs but also create relationships with your readers. It will help you find out more about your target and where you should take your content going further.
Once your niche is decided on, the fun of running a blog begins! From coming up with new content ideas to sharing it across the web, there is a lot of work to be done but it is so worth it in the end! If you find that later down the road you want to change your niche, that is absolutely okay. The best part of running your own blog is that at the end of the day, you make the decisions about your content. Have fun with it!
