It’s easy to get caught up in the design of your blog. Sometimes, it can even derail us from putting our blog out there and making it live, all because it’s not perfect yet. All bloggers go through this at one point in time. Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect it just has to be done! You can always tweak things along your blogging journey.
At the end of the day, your readers are coming to your blog for your awesome content, not the layout. Of course, it’s important to have a decent looking blog but it’s important that you are focusing on your content when you are first starting out. Creating the best content you can will ensure that your readers come back again and again. Here are some simple and basic design tips to get you started.
Keep Everything Clean & Simple
Every blogger is different and loves different styles but I always recommend keeping it clean and simple when you start. As a newer brand, it’s hard to know exactly who you are talking to and what your niche is. The more you blog, the better idea you will have. A clean and easy to navigate design will help readers find you and keep coming back to your blog. When you first start, focus on your content and what you love to write about. You don’t have to have the perfect design layout just yet. The content that you are producing is more important! Once you get an idea of your niche and your target audience, you can absolutely tweak your design or even redesign it later down the road to fit your brand better.
Make Sure You’re Clear
When you start your blog, you may have a few different topics that you want to talk about. Make sure that you keep your bio clear on what you will be talking about in your content. If your readers are confused about what you can actually offer them, they probably won’t stick around for very long. You want to make it clear to readers when they arrive what your blog is all about. Of course, this may change over time and that is absolutely okay. Just try to keep it as clear as possible for your readers and potential readers.
Not only should your main topics be clear but the actual text in itself should be clear too. Be sure that the design is not making your content hard to read. For example, a light colored text on a dark colored background could come across as hard to read and make your readers not want to come back again. Make sure that your font sizes and fonts that you choose are easy to read as well. You don’t want the design itself to keep your readers from coming back.
Stay Consistent
One thing that I always recommend is to keep things consistent. Throughout your website, you want to make sure that you are using the same fonts and colors throughout every page. Creating a consistent brand when you start will help you along your blogging journey. Keeping your design consistent will give your blog a more cohesive and professional feel when readers come to your website.
Consider Investing in a Premium Theme
If you don’t think that you can design a website on your own or hire a designer, you may want to think about investing in a premium theme. It’s an easy way to make your blog look professional and save you from long hours and frustrations of learning to code. Be sure to find a template that is easy enough for you to make the changes yourself. You don’t want to have to hire a designer every time you want to make a change!
