As a blogger, your website is so important. It’s your heart and soul of your brand and you want to make sure that it captures your readers interest from the second they land on it. When you start creating your website, you will have to decide on what pages are important to you. I always recommend starting with the basics and perfecting those. You can always add in different pages along the way that compliment your already existing pages and that make sense for your brand and your blog.
Your website is your home base and the first place your readers will get a sense of who you are. Think of it as a first impression. You want to make sure that your first impression is a good one because if not, chances are the readers will not come back again. Having the right pages on your website will help you stand out from other blogs and help your readers navigate your website easily. If you are feeling stuck on what to include, here are the top 5 pages I recommend starting with.
Homepage
Your homepage is so important because it is the first place that your readers and potential readers will go to. You want to be able to capture your audience’s attention right away so that they will keep exploring your website and your blog. Your homepage is a good place to communicate who you are, what you do, and how awesome your blog is!
Don’t be afraid to get a little creative with your home page. You can add in a blog feed that readers can click on your most popular posts or you can even link to different categories for readers to check out. You want the viewer to know what you are all about and what your blog is about so giving them a sneak peek is the perfect way to do that.
About Page
Your About Me is incredibly important. It’s where readers get a sense of who you are, what you are all about, and if they should stick around and keep reading. It’s where they learn about your brand and learn about how you and your blog are going to impact their lives. It’s important to think about your dream audience when you are writing your about me page. They want to know how you are going to help them and how your content is something that they just can’t miss. You can always add in personal information that makes you unique but you want to make sure you can relate it back to your brand and your blog. Check out this post to learn more about what to add to your About page!
Blog
Adding a blog page is a no-brainer! This is what your website is all about so you want to make sure you don’t miss this. You can even link your homepage and your about page to your blog so that you can send readers to your favorite posts. As you probably already know, blogging isn’t just about sharing your work. This is where you can share amazing content that your readers can benefit from. From educating, to sharing behind the scenes, to even sneak peeks at new offerings, your blog can be whatever you want it to be. It’s great to share your blog posts on different social media platforms so that you can send new readers to your website.
Contact Page
A contact page is a must because it gives your readers a way to reach out and get in touch in with you. Whether you put in a contact form or just give a link to your email address, having a way for people to reach you is important! You never know if readers will want to ask questions, tell you how much they love your work, or even consider working together on a project! Not only can your readers reach you but other businesses and sponsors can reach out to you as well. It’s a great way to work with other entrepreneurs if they think you align with their brand.
Privacy Policy
You have probably been hearing all about privacy policies and for a good reason. This is an important page that you don’t want to miss out on because it is mandatory these days. If you are selling services, products, collecting email addresses or even just installing Google Analytics – it is an absolute must. I recommend having a privacy policy in place as soon as you make your website live. That way you don’t have to worry about running into any issues like being fined. You will have yourself covered from the start. I recommend starting with the GDPR Framework plugin, it comes with a Privacy Policy template you can edit yourself!
If you have these 5 pages on your website, you will have your basics completely covered! You can always add more pages along the way but these are the essentials. Remember to keep each page on brand and make sure your website is easy to navigate. You want your readers to spend a lot of time on your website so making a good first experience is the ultimate goal!
Thank you! I’m new to blogging and this post really helped me get the general idea of what my pages should be.
You’re very welcome Haily 🙂
